Gaetan Stalpaert

Gaetan Stalpaert comes from a family where horses have always been present. He worked with them in his grandfather`s farm, then in the stables and breeding of his parents in Bornival. " Like many, I started climbing around the age of five ," he says. " A few years later, I started the pony competitions, evolving to the national level. I continued in school where I won twice the Belgian Cup and, lack of adequate horse, I did not know how to continue in juniors. The equestrian career of Gaetan Stalpaert did not stop for as much and, from the age of 18, the young man began to travel to train. "I worked in the United States and these various experiences allowed me to confirm that I really wanted to work in horses, "says the rider. When he returned to Belgium, Gaetan Stalpaert set out to develop horse trading and work activities. He also invested heavily in improving the family infrastructure in Bornival, which he bought back from his parents a few years ago. Equistal stables that he manages with the help of his partner Lara Harus and her parents gather today various activities including pensions, a pony club, breeding and of course a pole competition and trade.

Gaetan Stalpaert Horses

The competition team of Gaetan Stalpaert has an average of twenty horses who are at work and / or destined to trade. Some were bred and bred on the spot, such as Don Darco of Bornival Z, an 8-year-old stallion obtained from a cross between Darco and Air Lane Z, a broodmare purchased from breeder Luc Henry. The horse has already been talked about at the beginning of the 2018 season by winning the Grand Prix Classic Tour de Gesves and finishing third in the Petit Tour Marbais. He also won several rankings among young horses last year. In general, Gaetan Stalpaert starts young mounts, makes them evolve if possible until the Grands prix 2 * and then they are sold. The horses therefore remain a limited time in his stables, which does not prevent the rider to be marked by some. " Probably the most important thing was Inschalla, because it was a family horse that my brother also rode. He really pulled me up and it was he who allowed me to win twice the Belgian Cup in school. "

Gaetan Stalpaert does not yet have a very big victory to his credit, but he is rather distinguished by the regularity of his results in the Belgian and international events. The rider has garnered good rankings and victories in 2017 in the Gold and Classic Tour Sellerie Gilbert races, with several horses including Ensor van het Moleneind and Urlu. According to the horses he owns in his stable, Gaetan Stalpaert participates on average in a CSI 1 or 2 * per month and changes each year a few mounts until Grand Prix. In Mons last year, he notably won 4th place in events at 1m30 / 35 or a victory in young horses. He also finished several times on the podium at CSI 1 and 2 * Palaiseau. Very down-to-earth, the rider puts everything first on the job to succeed and evolve his horses, but he remains aware that riding is not an exact science. " You must also have a little luck ... and know how to provoke it if necessary! "

In recent years, Gaetan Stalpaert has mainly worked to improve its infrastructure and development of stable and viable equestrian activities, including selling his horses. " I do not have the ambition to compete in 5 * but in the long run, I would like to be able to keep two or three good horses to be more competitive and make me happy, " he says. In 2018, the rider hopes to finish the season in Grand Prix 2 * with Don Darco and two other 9 year old horses that are still a bit green. At the same time, he will of course continue to train his youngest horses so that they too will have access to bigger events afterwards.
